Marilyn Potts
Marilyn Potts has been active in the Calgary Theatre scene for the past 50 years.
She taught high school drama and musical theatre for 32 years. She created a drama program and directed theatrical productions for St. Mary’s University for 10 years. She is a Professor Emeritus and an Honorary Fellow from St. Mary’s University.
She was a member of the Board of Directors for Alberta Theatre Projects for 22 years.
She is honored with the Harry & Martha Cohen Award, for her significant and sustained contribution to theatre in Calgary, The City of Calgary Community Achievements Award (Arts ), Women of Distinction and Women of Vision Awards.
She is currently a freelance director and actor. But basically she is a retired mother and grandmother who was fortunate enough to have taught an amazing group of students in a career she loved.
Her philosophy is that the Arts, allow us to question, provoke, and stimulate society to re-examine its traditions. The Arts refer to all the ways humans communicate their thoughts and feelings. They take us beyond mere recognition of things to the level of insight and interpretation.
